To help you and your family understand the types of cremation services, below we have listed three basic options for cremation:
Direct Cremation, or simple cremation as it is sometimes referred to, is the most basic type of service. The body is cremated shortly after passing, without embalming, and the cremains are then returned to the family without a funeral, viewing, or visitation. Typically, this is the most affordable cremation service.
A memorial usually service takes place after the body has been buried or cremated. With this type of service, the body of the deceased is not present, though cremated remains may be present. Following the cremation, the memorial service is held weeks or even months after death.
In a traditional funeral there is typically a visitation that offers family and friends a chance to gather and pay their respects before the cremation takes place. This normally takes place within several days of the death. The body is then taken to a crematorium after the funeral service where it is then cremated. The family of the deceased may then pick up the cremated remains following cremation.
